Regine Velasquez has staged her last big solo concert. The singer known across the region as Asia’s Songbird closed a three-night series billed as “Finale” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on October 17, 18 and 19 — all of them sold out.

The run marked four decades in music, and a demand that outstripped the original plan: a third night, October 19, was added to the first two. Velasquez has been clear that the series is a farewell to large-scale solo shows specifically, not a retirement from performing — a distinction that gave the nights their bittersweet charge.

Forty years, one stage

Her husband, singer Ogie Alcasid, paid tribute publicly, writing that the run represented “40 years of grind. 40 years of toil. 40 years of giving everything and leaving it on that music stage,” and signing off: “Take a bow, my love. Take a bow, our GOAT. Behold, Asia’s Songbird. Regine Velasquez.” Coming from a peer who has shared the industry with her for most of those four decades, it doubled as a summary of her standing in Filipino music.

A farewell to the big rooms, she has been careful to say — not a farewell to singing.

What comes next

The “Finale” series is set to live on in a documentary. Titled Songbird, written and directed by the Emmy-winning producer Michael Carandang, it will chronicle her 40-year career and the road to these concerts, with a theatrical release planned for 2027. Several social posts also floated a new album; we could not confirm any such announcement in reputable coverage, so we are leaving it out until one exists.

For now, the story is the bow itself: three full houses, four decades, and a performer closing one chapter of her career on exactly her own terms.
