A Lagos Homecoming Reignites the Burna Boy vs Wizkid Debate
Dave closed his tour in Lagos and brought out Burna Boy for “Location” — and Afrobeats’ favorite argument was back.

Lagos — British-Nigerian rapper Dave ended his world tour where it arguably mattered most: in Lagos, with his first-ever headline shows in the city — and a guest appearance that set Afrobeats fans arguing all over again.
The two-night run, on October 16 and 17 at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts (the former National Theatre), capped “The Boy Who Played the Harp Tour,” which began in Munich back in February and wound across Africa, Australia, Europe and North America. During the homecoming, Burna Boy came out to perform “Location,” the 2019 single the pair released together on Dave’s debut album Psychodrama.
The argument that never ends
A Burna Boy cameo in Lagos was always going to pull focus, and online it did what it always does: reopen the long-running debate over who sits at the top of Afrobeats, Burna Boy or Wizkid. Clips of street interviews asking passersby to pick a side circulated alongside the concert footage, and the two fanbases traded the usual stats — tour records and streams on one side, catalogue depth and influence on the other.
The “debate” is less a question with an answer than a ritual two fanbases perform whenever either star is in the news.
What’s solid, and what’s just noise
It is worth separating the confirmed from the viral here. The reliable part is the show: Dave’s Lagos homecoming and the Burna Boy “Location” moment are well documented. The “UK street poll said X” framing is the softer part — those clips are easy to film, easy to edit and impossible to treat as a real measure of anything. Enjoy them as entertainment, not evidence.
The bigger picture is the one both camps tend to skip past while arguing: a British rapper ended a global tour in Lagos, to a packed homecoming crowd, with one of the genre’s biggest stars as a guest. Whatever the ranking, that is the actual headline — Afrobeats as a center of gravity, not a footnote.
