tvN’s Love in Disguise Pairs a Chaebol Heir with an Undercover Detective
The new Monday–Tuesday drama opened first in its time slot, with Yim Si-wan and Seol In-ah leading.

Seoul — A new tvN romance-thriller landed on top of its time slot out of the gate. Love in Disguise premiered on October 19, pairing a prickly chaebol heir with a detective who is hiding more than her badge.
Yim Si-wan plays Yoon Yi-jun, the arrogant third-generation heir to a conglomerate who becomes the prime suspect in a murder. Seol In-ah plays Kang Jae-hee, a detective and former special-forces officer who goes undercover — disguised as a man — to work as his personal secretary and bodyguard. The setup, adapted from a popular web novel, runs on the friction between the two.
The numbers
The premiere drew an average nationwide audience share of about 5.6%, enough to finish first in its slot, according to Nielsen Korea figures reported by Soompi. The second episode, the following night, pulled around 4.7% and again led its slot. The series airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 20:50 KST and streams internationally on Amazon Prime Video.
A suspicious heir, an undercover detective, and a disguise that cannot last forever. The K-drama machine knows exactly what it is doing.
Why the setup works
There is a reason the “undercover identity, inconvenient attraction” premise keeps coming back. It builds tension into every scene for free — the audience knows something the lead does not, and the clock is always running on the disguise. Stack a murder plot on top and you have a show that can be a romance and a mystery at once, switching between the two whenever the pace needs a lift.
A strong first-week showing is not a guarantee; plenty of dramas open well and fade. But leading its slot twice in two nights is a healthy start, and the central pairing is the kind that word of mouth tends to reward. The disguise, of course, is on borrowed time — which is precisely the point.
